Diana Chittester is one of the most powerful performers in folk music, but backed by a full band and buoyed by a capacity crowd she brought a couple extra levels of energy to the release of her EP Paradox. In addition to the usual collection of acoustic guitars, she brought some additional armament in the form of a cigar-box ukulele, a key component in new tracks “Freedom” & “Paradox,” and debuted an electric guitar. The dynamic performance was capped off with an unplugged foray into the crowd for an extra-intimate touch.
Chittesterian protégé Olivia Martinez, a local whose first EP Dear Anonymous was released in August, opened the night with impressive poise for a performer not yet out of high school. Her songwriting showed significant promise, particularly her fiery feminist “Stop the Car,” which garnered an enthusiastic response from the crowd.
