On a steamy spring evening on Columbus’ High Street, Sarah Shook & the Disarmers leveraged their booming popularity following the release of Years to pack Ace of Cups. Although the band’s repertoire of intense, impassioned punk country garnered enthusiastic responses from the crowd throughout, the zenith of the performance was saved for the encore, during which Shook unslung her guitar, hopped off stage, and performed signature song “Dwight Yoakam” from the front of the house, overcome by the palpable emotion in the room and unable to hold back tears from trickling down her cheeks. Punks cry. Get over it.
The Disarmers were accompanied by Thelma and the Sleaze, a rough and rowdy rock outfit who set the stage perfectly for their rebellious counterparts and won more than a few new fans in the process.
